Financial Accountant - Fixed Term until December 2026

We are seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join our finance team on a fixed term contract until December 2026 to cover a period of parental leave.

As Financial Accountant you will ensure accurate financial reporting for allocated entities, ensure compliance with all tax and statutory returns.

Based at our office in central Masterton, Wairarapa - this role will involve working with our group of companies across New Zealand. Tranzit Group of companies is one of NZ's largest transport providers, keeping kiwi communities connected with our transport solutions nationwide.

The role:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly financial reports, including variance analysis, consolidation, and elimination entries within agreed timeframes.
  • Compliance & Regulatory: Assist with annual tax return preparation, statutory financial statements and IFRS technical papers.
  • Reconciliations: Perform and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
  • Audits: ensure all requested data is supplied and act as key contact for auditor queries.
  • Team support: provide guidance and act as an escalation point for queries, offering advice and support to the wider finance team.
  • Analysis & Insights: Prepare regular and ad-hoc financial analysis, oversee smaller entity reporting, and provide guidance on accounting treatments.

We are looking for:

  • An experienced Accountant with a tertiary qualification in Accounting or Commerce.
  • 3-5 years of commercial experience, with a good working knowledge of IFRS.
  • Strong business acumen with ability to critically review outcomes and challenge processes.
  • Experience in group accounting, consolidations, and intercompany processes, with a strong understanding of tax compliance and legislative requirements.
  • Proven experience in financial reporting and monthly close processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong time management for handling multiple entities.
  • Accountable, organized, and able to prioritize effectively.
